Can i use a single-link DVI cable with my dual-link DVD-I video card?

For now i am only using an analog cable on my PC. Its hard to find a dual-link DVI-D cable here, i have come to many computer shops and they only have the single-link DVI cable. Though its kinda cheap, i didn't buy it coz i dont know if it will work on my dual-link DVI-I video card (Nvidia) to my dual-link DVD-D LED monitor.|||WholeSwitch soft client (PC to Phone Dialer) enables users to make and receive quality VoIP calls from any computer to any phone internationally at ultra low rates. Dual vga out video card?

ok i have a imb 8215MUB (link at bottom), and i need to get dual display with extended monitor on the 2nd. i have figured out that i am going to have to install a video card, but i really don't know much about them. i have been looking at cards all day and i am still very confused.

1) i am finding vid cards that say dual vga but when i look at the picture i only see one vga port. is there something I'm missing here?

2) i'm seeing in a lot of cases the card will require 250w. my power supply only out puts 225w. but i have read in some places that people are using 225w to supply a 250w card. all i can say is "what?"

3) i think i have a free pci AND a free pci-e slot. is the only difference between these performance and speed?

if any of these questions can be answered you will be my best friend and i will send you a cookie in the mail ( +Shipping and handling ) but if you can make a valid suggestion for a card i will bow down and call you my guru along with a $50,000,000 check in the mail ( check will bounce ) i don't need a bad a$* card. I'm not playing games or anything. the most strenuous thing i will be doing on it is spread sheets ( and of coarse the hog of a windows desktop )

thanks in advance,

lindsey|||"1) i am finding vid cards that say dual vga but when i look at the picture i only see one vga port. is there something I'm missing here?" - Some have a VGA + a DVI port. The DVI can be converted to VGA with an adapter.

"2) i'm seeing in a lot of cases the card will require 250w. my power supply only out puts 225w. but i have read in some places that people are using 225w to supply a 250w card. all i can say is "what?"" - Yep, and they wonder why they have poor video performance. Duh?

"3) i think i have a free pci AND a free pci-e slot. is the only difference between these performance and speed?" - Yes, just like the performance and speed of a wheelbarrow and a Porshe.

Now, on to your "problem". To add to the above problems, you also have a Small Form Factor (SFF) computer. This will require a half-height or low - profile card to fit in the case.

So you need a dual port, low-profile, PCI video card that will run in a computer that only has a 225w power supply! These are very scarce and expensive. I found one at Tiger Direct: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/… Sparkle RP95GT1024D2LHP GeForce 9500 GT Video Card (Refurbished)

Need drivers for dual monitor and wifi?

I'm running a thinkpad r51 by IBM with windows xp sp2, I need an update on drivers so i can have dual monitors and wireless internet access, and i believe i have an ati raedon 7500 video card.. I just need the sites where i could download the drivers for what i listed above.|||You will find all the drivers for your lap top here by model number and operating system.

Which video card should I buy for my situation?

I've got a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz chip and I want to put together a dual display setup. I've already got onboard video and I'm wondering which card to get to run the other monitor (assuming one of my monitors CAN be onboard video with a dual setup?). I have PCI slots open as well as AGP. I'm looking to spend between $50-$100, and I want to purchase it from Newegg. I'll be using it for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and other various desktop publishing tools. The card will be hooked up to either a 17" LCD or a 19" CRT.|||It's possible to do a dual-display setup with your computer but there are some things you should know.

* AGP cards are exclusive so it definitely won't share with your on-board video.

* Some systems are designed to disable on-board video when another video card is inserted (PCI or AGP). It's hard to tell if your system will do that.

No problem though, you just need to buy a video card with two video outputs. I'm familiar with nvidia cards and I know for certain that dual-display is supported in the software so any nvidia card would work as long as two VGA outputs are present on the card. If you plan to connect to one CRT and one LCD with DVI connector, you can use this card then (see picture):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you are doing two CRTs, however, you'll need something like this where they include a DVI-to-VGA adaptor:

You can also look for dual-VGA video cards like this one but I'm not familiar with ATI products and how easy it is to set it up:

Did i need a video card for adding a dual monitor?

Do i need it? What worth it|||check if your current video card has 2 display outs. then u already have the ability, if not the other option unless u got an SLI board is PCI.

Dual Monitor is satisfying to have, as you can say play a game on one screen while monitoring your msn messenger, chat rooms, perhaps even yahoo answers page.. also u can watch dvd videos etc... if you work like a graphics designer you'll find its always good to have alot of spaces.. and also if u like to have alot of programs open its a plus as well.|||if your video card cannot handle dual video like the best answer said. there is also an option for a cheap VGA splitter. it will give you 2 video out ports for dual monitors. this unfortunately will give you two copies of the same screen, but there are uses for this.

|||Dual Monitors are excellent at increasing productivity on a "Work station" PC. Also there are a lot of things to be said for Dual monitors on both multi-media or gaming PC's. I have a network set-up that allows me to view one or more (up to 4 actually, in my case) desktops across my Dual monitor Set-up which really increases your multi-tasking capabilities( for example: I can download files onto PC 1 while simultaneously looking for info one the web, PC 2 and at the same time have a word processor open PC 3 and my estimating software PC 4, running all at the same time! This makes my whole set-up faster because none of my cpu's are maxed out while multi-tasking.)

What laptop should I buy for dual-monitor & photoshop/lightroom?

I'm looking to buy a laptop, but I'm concerned about the ability of it to handle such software as photoshop and lightroom - additionally dual-monitor use - at the same time in pretty good screen resolution size. I'm wanting to be able to edit photos on the spot and give to client moments after taking the pictures. What are the minimum hardware requirements I should look for that will be able to handle this demand? Will I need a non-mobo-based video card to handle dual monitors and higher screen res?|||I think u should get an HP cuz my laptop hasnt had any problems

My video card has 1 DVI and 1 VGA ports and I need to setup a dual monitor for my 2 LCDs, with DVI ports only.

Is that possible? Can I use the 1 DVI port on my card to have 2 monitors (extended display not cloned). How?|||no cause there are no dvi-splitters out there, but u can use a dvi to vga cable for one of the monitors|||Either get a different card.( dual DVI) ..or get a VGA monitor. if you go the monitor route..you may not like the how the monitor extends into the second screen.|||Cucusoft MPEG/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter Pro (Converter + Embedded Burner) is easy to use and powerful for experts as well. Video card for dual monitors? Will nVidea GeForce GT 220 work?

I'm in the market for a new desktop and I want to set up a dual monitor setup. I will probably be using two 22 or 23 inch monitors, and I want to make sure I can use them to create an extended display, not just a cloned display on two screens. The pc will be running an Intel Core i7-920 with 6 GB tri-channel ram. I do not really do any gaming, but I watch a lot of video/multimedia/etc. Would an nVidia GeForce GT 220 (1024 MB) support this monitor config without any problems?|||yes but u might need a dvi to vga converter

I buying a new computer. dual monitors is a must for me. SLI? crossfire? or dual output video card?

i need 2 monitors for work, but i also enjoy games. i really want to be able to play starcraft II when that comes out, so some hardware aptitude in 3d gaming is preferable (im not interested in having bragging rights on resolution or fps, just enough power to enjoy a multiplayer game).

my question: should i be leaning toward dual graphics boards? if so, is there any significant performance difference between ATI's crossfire and Nvidia's SLI?

finally, as an alternative, is there a dual DVI output video card that is comparable in gaming ability to my old video card: the ATI Radeon X1600XT. i might consider just upgrading my old comp to support dual monitors... ty for all your help!|||Im pretty sure that Crossfire is better then SLI (not by much though), but you can get SLI capable cards for pretty cheap (the 8600gt, great card, is only like $80 or so). Im not really sure about crossfire capable cards. It depends on your motherboard though. You cant have both Crossfire and SLI on the same Motherboard.|||I agree with Johnny. I also use a 8600gt and it works great. Can't compare with ATI, haven't ever used ATI equipment.

8600gt comes with 512MB onbd memory an plugs into a PCI Express Slot|||For dual monitors i would go with the new 9000 series from Nvidia or just get a high end single card will still play games well, but SLI is better for dual monitor. And also make sure when you choose SLI or Crossfire you get the Motherboard that supports 2 PCI-E slots.

But dual graphics can be pricey, if it is going with a high end single card will still do the job.|||The Radeon X1600XT would run dual monitors. You just needed a VGA to DVI adapter like the one they sell at Radio Shack. I couldn't wait, so I shelled out $15 bucks!,(or was it $17.99?) at Radio Shack. It's cheaper online, but like I said, Chickster gotta' have it now! Gimme! Lol! I run a Trinitron 21" CRT monitor, and a Gateway 19" LCD. Coulda' run two LCD screens,(will in future, I'm usin' my money for motherboard/cpu combo's right now) I use a ATI Radeon X600XT graphics card. Will be going to a 8800 series card, probably the 8800GT, or GTS. I install 'em for people, just haven't upgraded mine! I'd recommend a 8800 series card. Just one. You can shell out another $300 bucks later. (well, almost $300.)|||Dual-cards just for two monitors seems a bit silly. A single better card will perform better, be cheaper and use less power than two cards. Pretty much all recent graphics cards have two monitor outputs on them as well as a TV-out.

Without knowing what spec starcraft 2 requires it's hard to suggest a card for it, but either an ATI 3850 or 3870 should be sufficient, choose the one that suits your budget best, you can always add another one later if you want. If money is a concern, you should be able to get away with a slightly lower model, but the savings aren't that big.

Dual monitor display...video card dilemma!?

I am trying to set up my HP Compaq DC5000 (Windows 7 32bit) to have multiple displays via 2 VGA ports. The first VGA is built into the computer and the second is an added video card (VGA). Both of the ports work and both of the monitors work.

-When I boot without the second card, the built in vga works fine.

-When I boot with the second card in and the monitor connected to it, the display works fine.

-When I boot with the second card in and the monitor plugged into the stock one, it doesn't detect!

-When I boot with both of the monitors plugged in, only the added VGA display detects..as if the built in port doesn't even exist.

I tried software downloads, different monitors, etc.

Does my motherboard not support dual VGA? ;(

Thanks for any help!|||You cannont run Onboard Video card and a PCI or PCI-E video card at the same time. if you want to get double displays you need a double display ready video card with 2 vga ports or 2 hdmi ports on the back. but you cannot. plug 1 vga into the video card and the other VGA into the Motherboard ( Onboard Video card) cause it will not ready any of them and it will confuse the OS on witch one to pick and it wont turn anyone of them on.

Dual monitor video card ?

is there a way to install a dual monitor video card or 2 video cards and what is a good video card for what i want to do ?

what i want to do is to have both monitors on at the same time and move some files pages over the other screen when i am working

sometimes i have over 20 pages open and i seen people doing that with the mouse

I have 4gb of ram

thank you|||Yes, like the guy said above me it is possible to do that on one card...

If you are just wanting the card for dual monitoring purposes then you could pick up a card for about 50 bucks...

Here are some video cards that have that function...

I would recommend 2 DVI ports abose to VGA

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Yes. Almost all aftermarket video cards support this kind of feature. I'd personally recommend an nVidia video card with two DVI outputs.|||Most new video cards come with a VGA and a DVI output , or two DVI outputs. Either of these configurations will allow you to run a second screen.

Your second screen can then be set up in 3 different ways

Clone - both screens display the same

Extended - your desktop is stretched over the two screens

Dual - this is the option you will probably want. it allows the second screen to be a different resolution and have different settings etc.
